Das Label Aesthetic Death hat mitunter die feinsten Metalalben veröffentlicht, aber Stu hat auch den Mut, etwas weiter zu gehen. Mit SECTION 37 hat er eine rein elektronische Band unter seinen Fittichen, die allerdings auch nicht ganz normal ist.

Die beiden Alben „The Kudos of Serial Killing“ und „Legion“ beschäftigen sich mit dem, was in den Gehirnen von Serienmördern abgeht. „Legions“ wurde 2 Jahre nach „The Kudos of Serial Killing veröffentlicht, ist aber als Erweiterung des Albums zu sehen und daher rühren auch die konzeptionellen Ähnlichkeiten. Beide Alben starten mit den „tanzbarsten“ Songs („The Nu-Millenial Art“ und „I know you know I know“), auf beiden Alben findet man einen Song, der entfernt an PRODIGY erinnert („The Body-Bag Wrapper“ und „Mirror Man“).

Die wirkliche Stärke des Albums sind aber die „Songs“, die als Untermalung für die kranken Texte von Stuart J. Harris dienen. Es handelt sich dabei oft um alptraumhafte Soundscapes, die eine ungeheure Visualität beinhalten. Ich denke, dass eine visuelle Umsetzung dieser Alben ein ungeheures Potential beinhaltet.

Die lyrische Seite des Albums ist eine der dunkelsten, die ich kenne und mal wieder komme ich zu dem Schluss, dass diese böse Poesie, die die verschiedensten Facetten des Serienkillertums ausgiebigst beleuchten, in der elektronischen Musik viel krasser wirken, als zum Beispiel bei meinem geliebten Black Metal. Gute Beispiele für diese These sind „The Garbage Man“ oder „What did you do in the war, Daddy?“.

Der musikalisch Mix ist sicher nicht so ganz leicht verdaulich, denn man pendelt konsequent zwischen den Stühlen und EBM, Industrial, Darkwave, Rock und Soundtrack und die Art des Songwritings macht es notwendig, dass man sich intensiv mit dem Album beschäftigt, denn so „nebenbei“ wird man die Untiefen der Gedanken nicht ausloten können.

Anspieltipp sind die bereits genannten Songs oder mein Lieblingsstück „Sitting in the Dayroom“! (chris)

The label Aesthetic Death has published some fine metal albums, but label-owner Stu also has the courage to go a little further. With SECTION 37 he has a purely electronic band under his wing, which also is not quite normal.

The two albums „The Kudos of Serial Killing“ and “ Legion“ deal with what ’s going on in the brains of serial killers . „Legions“ was released two years after „The Kudos of Serial Killing“ , but is seen as an extension of the album, because of the conceptual similarities. Both albums start with the most „danceable“ songs („The Nu- Millennial Art“ and „I know you know I know“) and on both albums you find a song that is vaguely reminiscent of PRODIGY ( „The Body Bag wrapper“ and “ Mirror Man“).

But the real strength of the album are the „songs“ that serve as background for the sick lyrics by Stuart J. Harris. They are often nightmarish soundscapes that include an incredible visuality. I think that a visual realization of these albums contains tremendous potential.

The lyrical side of the album is one of the darkest that I know and again I come to the conclusion that this evil poetry that illuminate the various facets of the thoughts of serial killers extensively, have a much more glaring in electronic music, as for example in my beloved Black Metal. Good examples of this thesis is „The Garbage Man“ or “ What did you do in the War, Daddy?“.

The musical mix is certainly not as easy to digest, because it’s caught in the middle between EBM, Industrial, Darkwave, rock and soundtrack and the way of songwriting makes it necessary that you deal intensively with the album, because when you’re listening to it incidentally you will not fathom the deepness of the thoughts.
