Ende 2012 erschien das Demo „Ordo ab Chao“ von WARDENCLYFFE… aber es war viel mehr als eine Eigenproduktion, denn Jacob Nordangard (v, g) konzipierte die Musik als Soundtrack zu seiner Doktorarbeit (Ordo Ab Chao – The Political History of Biofuels in the European Union) und so ganz nebenbei durfte sich die Doom-Gemeinde daran laben.

Nun endlich erscheint über Ván Records das Debüt der Band und jeder, der gerne Doom und Death Metal mixt, sollte hier genau hinhören! Allerdings ist es noch viel mehr, als lediglich Doom / Death, denn allein die Gitarrenarbeit und der Gesang heben die Musik weit über diese Genres hinaus. Der neue Gitarrist Robert Karlsson ist allerdings erst nach den Aufnahmen zur Band gestoßen und daher zeichnen sich für die wirklich grandiosen Soli und Harmonien Bassist Emil und Thomas Sabbathi (GRIFTEGARD, YEAR OF THE GOAT) verantwortlich!

Das Intro „The World Sensorium Pt. 1“ war auf der Demo-CD noch in den ersten Song „Orcadian Dream“ inkludiert und beim ersten Hören der neuen Version von „Orcadian Dream“ war ich skeptisch: der herrlich dreckige Gesang vom Demo ist klaren Vocals gewichen. Diese klingen garantiert nicht schlecht, aber ich sorgte mich, ob man den CELTIC FROSTigen Schmutz gänzlich über Bord geworfen hat… hat man aber zum Glück nicht, wenngleich das neue / erste Album weit mehr nach epischen Doom klingt, als das Demo!

Der zweite Song, den man vom Demo übernommen hat, ist „Macroshift“ und dieser Song trifft noch immer mit seiner Mischung aus Melodie und Schmutz. Zu den neuen Highlights darf man ohne Zweifel „A journey through the major arcana“, „Everlearning – Neverknowing“, „Merchants of Doom“, „Externalization of the hierarchy“ zählen. Also jeden Song, den man auf diesem 7-Tracker untergebracht hat! Die Band hat eine eigene Herangehensweise an die Musik klingt sehr eigenständig, was sicher an den Melodien und Soli liegen dürfte, die man in den harschen, aber niemals ultrabrutalen, Sound integriert.

Dass die doomigen Riffs sitzen, ist sicher kein Wunder, denn Ola Blomkvist (g; GRIFTEGARD) ist ein Meister seines Fachs und auch Drummer Micael Zetterberg beweist, dass er mehr drauf hat, als mit schlichten Rhythmen den Takt vorzugeben und er bildet mit Emil Aström (b) eine solide Basis.

Wer mit THE DOOMSDAY CULT und CELTIC FROST etwas anfangen kann, muss der Band definitiv seine Zeit schenken und freut sich schon auf das, was da kommen mag, denn die Band wird im Sommer diesen Jahres die Arbeit am Nachfolger („The Temple of Solomon“) aufnehmen! (chris)

In 2012 the demo „Ordo ab Chao“ was released, but it was way more than just a self-released demo-cd. Jacob Nordangard (v, g) released the music as a part of his doctoral thesis (Ordo Ab Chao – The Political History of Biofuels in the European Union) and besides that approach the Doomheads could feast on this.

Nowadays Ván Records releases the debut and everyone who likes Doom and Death Metal should be listening carefully! But there is much more than just another Doom / Death filled record, because the great solos and the vocal style are lifting the music way up beyond this stereotyped thinking. Robert Karlsson joined the band after the recording session and that′s why bassist Emil and Thomas Sabbathi (GRIFTEGARD, YEAR OF THE GOAT) are responsible for the magnificent solos and harmonies.

The intro „The World Sensorium Pt. 1“ was originally included in the first track „Orcadian Dream“ and while I was listening to the new version of „Orcadian Dream“ for the first time I got a little sceptical: the dirty growls were exchanged by some clean vocals. They sound great, but I was a little scared if the band got rid of the CELTIC FROSTy crunch… but they haven′t, although the first full length record sounds a little more epic than the demo.

The second known song is „Macroshift“ and it′s still a brillant song. Every other song („A journey through the major arcana“, „Everlearning – Neverknowing“, „Merchants of Doom“, „Externalization of the hierarchy“) can be considered a new highlight. Still the band has its own way to write music and a very unique approach on that.

The doomy riffs come crushing because Ola Blomkvist (g, GRIFTEGARD) is simply the master of desaster and drummer Micael Zetterberg proves that he can do way more than just keep up the beat und together with Emil Aström (b) he is the frame for the tower.

Who likes THE DOOMSDAY CULT and CELTIC FROST has to invest some time and money to support this band and can look into a bright future because the bands starts working on the follow up („The Temple of Solomon“) this summer! (chris)
